Fashion Photographer Turns Lens to Christ

Highly acclaimed fashion photographer Michael Belk has turned his lens to Jesus Christ to visually tell the tale of many of the gospel stories as set in modern times in his project, “Journeys With the Messiah“. I actually heard about this project during the pastor’s sermon at mass today, as he recalled the popular photo entitled “Quandary” which depicts today’s gospel reading with a man who has the best car, a beautiful wife, two kids and all the marks of “success” in our modern world – asking a 1st century Jesus what else must he do beyond keeping the commandments in order to inherit eternal life? Mark 10:21-22

Jesus, looking at him, loved him and said to him,
“You are lacking in one thing.
Go, sell what you have, and give to the poor
and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me.”
At that statement his face fell,
and he went away sad, for he had many possessions.

Vote with Love

November 9th, 2008

I just found from52to48withlove on del.icio.us, which visually speaks the message of unity in our country across political lines. We all make different judgments and have our opinions on what the most important problems are, how they should be addressed, and which candidate is best suited for the job. We have our differences, but we also have so much in common – love of our country.

The site talks mentions Red (Republican) and Blue (Democrat) states or voters, but I think left out us White (Libertarian, 3rd parties, independent…) voters! Oh well, in time they’ll see we really are in that “middle ground” and can truly bridge the polar opposites the Republicans and Democrats have come to represent. Candidates like Ron Paul attracted so many supporters from the across the entire spectrum of political affiliations, and I think, in time, the American people will get there too.

This is my favorite image, so cute, so beautiful and to the point!

blue vote and red vote kiss

One of our greatest needs as human beings is to be loved. We all need love… and our country needs love!

My favorite bible passages, from 1 John 4:8,16.

Christian Adventure Missions and Outreach

October 1st, 2008

I just stumbled upon The World Race, an 11-month 11-country journey for Christian young adults to spread their love of God through Jesus Christ our Savior to those who most desperately need Him and His Love in our world. Now, does that sound like an adventure or what? For the soul, spirit, mind and body! Just read some of the WR blogs and you’ll see, this is a great program and I’m glad to see them using blogs to share the experience widely.

As an alternative, if you’re interested in a shorter trip, consider Adventures in Missions as a start. I would have loved to have done that, to re-energize my Christian faith and feel great for actually “doing something” to help those in need in our world. Melissa and I actually looked into doing “volunteer vacations” during summer 2007… but we had so many places and people we wanted to visit that we just didn’t have the time. A great Catholic friend of mine, Laura Long (aka dovekeeper) has actually spent well over a year in Honduras, throughout multiple trips, helping the street children with the ProNino foundation. Here is a video she made about it in preparation for her 2007 stay.

When it comes to international volunteer work though, there are many options, as I found in my early research. I would like to help people in need, learn a foreign language and culture, and preferably offer IT, education and building assistance. Here are some sources: [tech bend: free networks, geek corps(long term)], catholic network of volunteer service, cross cultural solutions, cactus, global volunteers, volunteer international (search many other programs), idealist, i to i, travel to teach, volunteers for peace, so many more…

In Theatres Now: Fireproof

October 1st, 2008

Do you remember “Kirk Cameron”, aka Mike Seaver from Growing Pains? Well, he’s definitely gone from fame to faith and has been staring in Christian TV shows and films, the latest of which is “Fireproof“. (He’s also doing street conversions!) It’s a Christian film about saving a marriage, how a husband should love his wife like Christ loves His church. There have been some very good reviews about it, and I encourage you all, and especially couples, to check it out near you. Here’s the trailer video.

March for LIFE, March for Ron Paul!

January 22nd, 2008

Today is the March for Life in our nation’s capital, Washington D.C.! Last year I joined the March for Life in San Francisco, and after today I will have marched for life on both coasts! There is no issue more important to me than the preservation of Life – and this falls into politics as well with abortion and war (see entry below) – which is why I encourage you all to vote “Dr. Ron Paul for Life”.

Here’s a great Ron Paul for Life video:

When it comes to the other candidates, all of the Democrats are for abortion and of the republicans – both Guiliani and Romney have been vocal and resolute for abortion “rights”. McCain while opposing abortion as birth control (but not incest/rape) he is adamant on federal funds for embryonic stem cell research in this EWTN video however EWTN says Ron Paul is a great Right-to-Life candidate. The problem with abortion “rights” is that no one has the “right” to murder. No one has the right to take your life and you have no right to take another’s. This stems from the very Philosophy of Liberty. Also, no other candidate promotes all “Pro-Life” issues like Ron Paul, who by principle is against: abortion, the death penalty, federally subsidizing embryonic stem cell research and unjust war (following the Christian “Just War Theory”). See just how compatible Dr. Ron Paul and Pope John Paul II are on Pro-Life issues!

Abortion is a matter of “principle”, not “privacy”. Dr. Ron Paul (OBGYN) is “the man of principle” and the ONLY Pro-Life and Pro-Peace candidate running for the Presidency. The Philosophy of Liberty is to protect both Life and Liberty – you cannot protect Liberty without protecting Life! (the ultimate liberty).

Why Ron Paul is the ONLY moral choice

January 9th, 2008

Ron Paul is the ONLY ONE who opposes PREEMPTIVE WAR. He follows the “Just War Theory” and is the only true practicing Christian that I see running for the presidency. Please consider the ideology of Preemptive Nuclear War & Christianity… blessed be the peacemakers, blessed be Dr. Ron Paul.

Ron Paul is the Peace President. He is pro-Constitution and pro-Freedom. Ron Paul is the only vote for Peace, Love, and Charity. See Ron Paul – The Just War Theory & The Peace President

Not only was invading Iraq a SERIOUS mistake (preemptively attacking a country that did not even threaten us and effectively did not even have the capability to threaten us or its neighbors) that precipitated over 650,000 civilian deaths and over 1.2 million displaced people… only Ron Paul has LEARNED FROM THIS MISTAKE and would not repeat the same mistake with Iran or any other country. You need to know that: Ron Paul Reads the Frickin’ Constitution

The entire video of the 2007 GOP Debate in Michigan starts here on part 1, however the other candidates views on preemptive war with Iran starts in Part 9.

Thank God that Ron Paul places diplomacy over war with regards to the Iranian threat or any other “nation that threatens the U.S.A.”

update 20071215: All of the republican candidates, other than Dr. Ron Paul, look like (and in my humble opinion simply are) idiots when it comes to foreign policy, intelligence, and war. The December 2007 NIE “Iran: Nuclear Intentions & Capabilities” (pdf) clearly points this out. As President, I want a leader who can rationalize and think on his own two feet about threats to our nation, and not simply be another sheep from the fold who panders to whichever direction the popular rhetoric takes them… especially when it leads to war and further opportunities for the executive branch to abuse the Constitution of the United States and trample liberties, let alone leave our nation at greater risk and increased hatred around the world. Dear Lord help us!

Ron Paul in 2008!

October 27th, 2007

Just FYI:

I’m STRONGLY SUPPORTING Ron Paul in 2008, if he makes it to the election!

On the issues: he’s both anti-war and pro-life… how compatible!?

A summary of his responses from the GOP debate

From the republican debate, the viewers felt Ron Paul won. (I’m a little late on this, I missed the debate… didn’t really know at the time there was an anti-war Republican so I wasn’t particularly interested!)

Others even comment how smart he is on foreign policy, “Even the Bible says that the children will pay for the sins of their fathers.” Or how about, “we reap what we sow”?

Sampling of the response he has generated:
——————————————
Ron Paul is my new hero too! in addition to Bill Maher’s – this is great

Quick interview on his main platform points, time to leave Iraq

Stop Dreaming, American Pie and Ron Paul’s platform summary

Ron Paul got some support and discussion on The View after republican debate

Congressman Ron Paul does first ever “Dorm Room” interview for YouTube!

See more Ron Paul youtube interviews on youtube, RonPaul2008dotcom.

The Ron Paul @GoogleTalk interview has been the most popular ever! 300,000+ views compared to 40,000+ for Hillary Clinton.

Sean Hannity attacked Ron Paul after the republican debate … and Sean Hannity also attacked a priest, Fr. Tom Euteneuer (President of Human Life International), on the issue of contraception – the very priest I have met on 2 occasions talk about exorcisms (youtube recording linked to in article). (The latest exorcist talk was last weekend, here’s a summary)

Back to the foreign policy issue and “why were we attacked on 9/11” — which I feel is the most important question of our time, and are response — Are radical/extremist/militant Islamic terrorists are result of “blowback” from unwanted U.S. presence in the middle east over the years? yes

Operation Ajax and Iran is just one example. Think: which nation uses the most energy/oil resources in the world, where is the oil in this world, why else would we be interested in that part of the world when there are dictators and evil being done everywhere. It’s politics, oil/energy is in our ‘national interest’, and we’ve been fighting for this for decades, but it has had unintended consequences: Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia – but don’t forget Israel as well, another justified reason for Muslims in that area of the world to dislike Western/American intervention. Is Ron Paul serious? Blowback in 1979 from a 1953 coup?

Unfortunately, there is also a lot of *censorship* going on trying to prevent Ron Paul’s message from getting out… on cnn, myspace, yahoo, and probably others as well. There are examples and proof on youtube. At least with my own website, I can’t so easily be censored by others, however, my voice might not so easily be heard by others as well due to popularity.

“Bella” Opens this Weekend

October 26th, 2007

bella movie (jpg) The much anticipated film “Bella” (imdb) (wp) will make it’s opening appearance this weekend in theaters across the United States. This film (description) took the top prize, “The People’s Choice Award” at the 2006 Toronto International Film Festival, where it competed with Babel (fantastic!), Volver (I’d like to see), Darren Aronofsky’s The Fountain (wp) and others to put it in the same high level of esteem as many other great films to have won this award, including: American Beauty, Life Is Beautiful, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Hotel Rwanda.

Bella starts Friday, October 26th. I plan to see it in Baltimore! Unfortunately the film doesn’t appear to have the marketing power to make it to all of the major theaters, but please do go out and support this wholesome and very pro-life film!

Down with TOB? (Theology of the Body)

October 9th, 2006

I haven’t even been in Maryland for a week, and now I’ve already taken in 2 sessions on the Theology of the Body (TOB). Pope John Paul II gave over 129 short talks in his Wednesday general audiences from 1979-1984 defining the Catholic view of sexuality. Under the title “Theology of the Body”, these church teachings provide a groundbreaking view on how our own humanity of body and blood unites us to Christ through the Creator’s design of our own sexuality. There is a young adult TOB study group meeting near Baltimore at The Church of the Crucifixian and also a greater-DC area group (TOB related) meeting at The Good News Cafe in Gaithersburg. After just seeing one Christopher West video (on marriage), already I am hooked on learning more about how to find and practice a truer love in my future relationships.

The Theology of the Body is built upon the 1968 encyclical “Humanae Vitae” by Pope Paul IV and heavily influenced by then Bishop Karol Wojtyla. I personally have been dwelling on how simply “God is love” (1 John 4:8), but these teachings take that even further. Pope Benedict XVI just wrote his “Deus Caritas Est” (God is love) encyclical which also discusses the nature of love even further and is worth a read. My friend Harley and I remarked how coincidentally “very TOB” this Sunday’s Liturgy of the Word was! (archive)

Entertaining Strangers

Hebrews 13

1 Keep on loving each other as brothers. 2 Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it.

Matthew 25

35 For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in;

Job 31

32 The alien has not lodged outside, For I have opened my doors to the traveler.

1 Peter 4

9 Be hospitable to one another without complaint.
