Ron Paul subscribes to the “Original Foreign Policy” of the founding fathers like Thomas Jefferson (“Peace, commerce, and honest friendship with all nations- entangling alliances with none.”) and George Washington (“Act for ourselves and not for others,” by forming an “American character wholly free of foreign attachments.”).

Noninterventionism is not isolationism. Nonintervention simply means America does not interfere militarily, financially, or covertly in the internal affairs of other nations. It does not mean we that we isolate ourselves; on the contrary, our founders advocated open trade, travel, communication, and diplomacy with other nations.

Ron Paul shares that he feels our current interventionist “foreign policy” in the middle east is more of a threat than the risk of Iran acquiring a nuclear weapon in the following Face the Nation interview from 11/11/2007. (The whole interview is great, but the foreign policy starts at 1:45)

Buy the Book Congressman Paul has been speaking out against a foreign policy of interventionism since he first entered Congress in 1976. A Foreign Policy of Freedom features speeches and writings beginning with Dr. Paul’s first term in Congress and continuing through the present day.

It’s sure amazing to see that someone found this audio of then presidential nominee George W. Bush and his early promises of “no nation building”, a “humble” foreign policy, and clearly defined “exit strategies” for conflicts around the globe. He must have forgotten that.

Oh yeah, and let’s not forget Dick Cheney in 1994 after the first Iraq war reminded us why se should not have gone in to take Saddam and destabilize Iraq, at the cost of so many American lives.

Some headlines about Ron Paul lately include:
– He has been listed in GQ magazine as one of the 36 men of the year, as the official republican “Dark Horse” presidential candidate. (one who is nominated unexpectedly, without previously having been discussed or considered as a likely choice)
– From a Catholic perspective, Ron Paul is quantitatively the most compatible candidate for those wishing to follow the US Bishops recent guidance on forming consciences for an election. (Ron Paul leads, followed by Huckabee and Hunter)
– Ron Paul has support nationwide! A Zogby blind bio telephone survey poll of 1,009 likely voters nationwide showed Ron Paul was “was the big winner among that universe of voters, winning 33%, compared to 19% for Giuliani, 15% for Romney, and 13% for Thompson.”
– Standing at 6% in Iowa Washington DC-ABC newels page

I love my country, I fear my government. I honor my grandfather and his brothers who fought in WWII, my father (uncle & aunt also) who served in the armed forces, and especially my brother and friends who have gone off to fight in Iraq. They’ve all sacrificed for our country, thank God they are all still alive, but every veterans day I’m also haunted by the reasons our country has gone to war since WWII…

I just found that I share the sentiments of Naman Crowe, a Vietnam veteran, as he shares his thoughts on Veterans day in his article “Give Us a Reason to Die“. Quotes are included below:

Being a veteran, I can’t help but feel a certain remorse every year on Veterans Day because I know that all those who have died in combat since World War II died for nothing. I know that they were wounded for nothing and that they have suffered for nothing.

Except for World War II, there has not been a single American soldier that died defending our liberties. Not one has been wounded in defense of our country. Not one has suffered in order that we might live free

Our soldiers are not used to defend our liberties. They are just used. They are used to pacify the ego and carry out the policy of the American president and his main thinkers.

It’s not that we shouldn’t honor our veterans. Of course we should. But we should honor them with the truth. They sacrifice their lives and take the bullets and do the killing and endure the suffering in order to pacify the ego of the American president and to carry out his policies. Not since World War II, has it had anything to do with defending our liberties and way of life.

Since wars have been started politically, it only makes sense for me to address the note that Ron Paul will not lead us into any more unjust wars – and will always follow the Constitution that wars are not started by a president, but “declared by Congress”, (edit) in order to defend the liberties of our country. Here’s a solemn video reminder of the effects of our war in Iraq, our economy, and why we need a Tea Party in 2007:

While the November 5th moneybomb was good ron Ron Paul, racking in over $4.3 million… and there was perhaps some moderate fund raising success on Veterans Day November 11th… however the Big Stand for Freedom is scheduled to take place on this December 16th in commemoration of the Boston Tea Party – the date in history when Americans finally said “Enough is enough!” and so began our original revolution against an unjust government in order to create a republic based on democracy, with a limited role of government, in the pursuit of life, liberty and happiness for all!

How better to commemorate this day — a day in our nation’s history when “we the people” took that first great stand for freedom — than to show your support for our Country and our Constitution by contributing $100 or more to the Ron Paul campaign in order to spread this “freedom message” to all!

In the 24 hours of the This November 5th campaign, over $4.3 million was donated by over 35,000 grassroot supporters to the Ron Paul 2008 presidential campaign! While this is not quite half of the $10 million goal, it was still a very impressive amount for a single day of contributions for any candidate. This success was covered by ABC, CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC. I’m proud to say that I contributed to this success with $200 of my own very limited funds. It was a challenge and sacrifice for me to do this, but I also know that I would sincerely regret _not_ donating to such a cause so important in our time as that of saving our country and our constitution! Ron Paul is the only person we can count on to do this!
