Ron Paul on Foreign Policy
November 25th, 2007Ron Paul subscribes to the “Original Foreign Policy” of the founding fathers like Thomas Jefferson (“Peace, commerce, and honest friendship with all nations- entangling alliances with none.â€) and George Washington (“Act for ourselves and not for others,†by forming an “American character wholly free of foreign attachments.â€).
Noninterventionism is not isolationism. Nonintervention simply means America does not interfere militarily, financially, or covertly in the internal affairs of other nations. It does not mean we that we isolate ourselves; on the contrary, our founders advocated open trade, travel, communication, and diplomacy with other nations.
Ron Paul shares that he feels our current interventionist “foreign policy” in the middle east is more of a threat than the risk of Iran acquiring a nuclear weapon in the following Face the Nation interview from 11/11/2007. (The whole interview is great, but the foreign policy starts at 1:45)
Update:
“Setting a good example is a far better way to spread ideals than through force of arms.†– Ron Paul
