He holds a B.S. in Computer Science (CS) from the University of Nebraska at Omaha's College of IS&T with a minor in Management Information Systems and a concentration in Internet Technologies and IA under the NUCIA curriculum. He acquired NTSISSI certifications 4011-4013 through completion of coursework at UNO. As a recipient of the NSF (NFS) Scholarship for Service (SFS), Wiese will pursue a M.S. in CS at the Naval Postgraduate School in the class of 2007.

Wiese attended high school in Plattsmouth, Nebraska where he was senior class president of the PHS Class of 2000.

Brian and Norway

Brian spent the Fall 2004 semester of his senior undergraduate year at UNO while living in Norway and taking courses at HiA (Høgskolen i Agder - Agder University College). Brian created the HiA04 Sharedonline website while there to help record and share the international students group experiences. Wanting to help new exchange/Erasmus students at HiA to feel welcome and become oriented quickly, he started a wiki for all past, present, and future students to share their advice for living in the town of Kristiansand, (part of the south land) and to make contacts with other students. The study abroad student wikis currently have sections for both UNO and HiA students to leave their mark - and all are encouraged to do so!

Brian has no Norwegian heritage, but rather German, though he does greatly respect Norway and it's cultural contributions to international peace, work with the United Nations, strong information technology (and Free/Open Source Software) use, respect for the outdoors, and other honorable characteristics. Brian's Fall 2004 semester in Norway was partially financed as a recepient of the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship from the Institute of International Education.

Free and Open Source Software

This website and all of the information systems Brian manages run on 100% (or quite nearly) Free and Open Source Software (FOSS). FOSS promotes open standards and the ability for people to freely communicate. Some of these applications include: the GNU/Linux operating system, Apache webserver, PHP programming language, OpenSSL, the bash shell, and vim. Without these applications, this website (and much of "the net") would not be possible. Brian only supports FOSS and open standards data formats. Please do not send me or expect me to be able to read any proprietary data formats, notably those originating from Micro$oft.

"Never, ever expect hackers to be able to read closed proprietary document formats like Microsoft Word or Excel. Most hackers react to these about as well as you would to having a pile of steaming pig manure dumped on your doorstep. Even when they can cope, they resent having to do so."
